WHEN DO YOU NEED A KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY?

When the knee gets worn out to the extent that it interferes with patients’ daily routine activities and he/she would not be able to walk even 10-15 minutes without pain, this condition would generally warrant knee replacement. However, it is only decided after consulting a knee surgeon and after necessary scans and discussions.

FACTORS DECIDING COST OF A KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY

A comprehensive Knee Replacement Surgery cost highly depends on the following factors:

Method Of Surgery

Firstly, what type of knee replacement surgery you require is decided and then as per your health conditions, an appropriate method of surgery is finalised. Different methods of surgeries have different processes associated with it, leading to a difference in the cost.

Cost Of Implant

During knee replacement surgery, an orthopaedic surgeon will resurface your damaged knee with artificial components, called implants. There are different types of implants and the correct one will be chosen by the doctor keeping in mind your knee Anatomy, age, weight, health & activity level. Hence, it contributes to the total cost of knee replacement surgery.

Partial vs Total Knee Replacement

Depending on your condition and determining the amount of wear & tear precisely, you will be either recommended Partial Knee Replacement or Total Knee Replacement. A partial knee replacement costs 10 to 20% less than a Total Knee replacement.

Hospital Stay

The postoperative phase, wherein you will have to stay at the hospital for a brief period of time, as you recover. You will be under the eyes of the doctor until he feels you are ready to go home. The amount of time your knee takes to recover after the surgery i.e. the number of days you spent at the hospital is another factor deciding the cost.
