What are Meniscal Repairs?

Both of your knees have two pieces of cartilage which are C-shaped. They act like a cushion between your shinbone and your thigh bone. A tear in the meniscus will cause pain, swelling and stiffness. Your knee may not function properly and you may feel a block while it is in motion. It may prevent you from extending your knee fully.

The solution to such a tear is a Meniscal repair, which is a surgical procedure to repair a damaged or torn meniscus. In this surgery, the surgeon will sew torn pieces of cartilage back together so that they can heal back on their own, reducing pain.

There are three types of Meniscal Repairs :

  1. Arthroscopic partial meniscectomy;
  2. Meniscal repair with or without augmentation techniques
  3. Meniscal reconstruction.
