WHAT IS ARTHROSCOPY?

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure to examine, diagnose and treat problems within the knee joint. The word arthroscopy comes from Greek words Arthros (joint) and Scopus (to look). The term literally means “to look inside the joint.” Arthroscopy is performed using an Arthroscope, an endoscope is inserted into the joint through a small incision.

Aftercare For An Arthroscopic Surgery

The surgery only takes about an hour. After which you will be taken for a few hours to a separate comfortable, spacious and hygienic room to recover and heal before going home. Call or consult your surgeon if you have fever, drainage from incision, redness or swelling, new numbness. You need to practice following things strictly as instructed by your doctor :
  1. Medications as prescribed to relieve pain and inflammation.
  2. R.I.C.E. i.e. rest, ice, compress and elevate the joint for several days to reduce swelling and pain.
  3. Protection like temporary splints — slings or crutches for comfort and protection.
  4. Exercises to help strengthen your muscles and improve the function of your joint.
